Half Round Gutter 4m | uPVC Rainwater | Showcase Plastics Essex

This half round gutter 4m is a classic uPVC rainwater gutter length for domestic and light commercial eaves. The half-round profile is the UK’s most familiar gutter shape: a curved channel that sits under the roof edge, catches rainwater, and carries it to the downpipe.

Each length is 4 metres long, which means fewer joints on typical house elevations than 2m lengths. Choose Black, White, Anthracite Grey or Brown to coordinate with fascia, soffit and windows.

A half round gutter 4m is usually part of a 112mm-class half-round system (the standard domestic size in the UK), used with matching unions, angles, stop ends, outlets, fascia brackets and 68mm round downpipe. Always keep fittings in the same system and colour so seals and clips line up.

Also known as: half-round gutter, HR gutter, 4m gutter length, round profile gutter, domestic rainwater gutter.

Product Description

Half round vs other gutter profiles

Profile Look Typical use
Half round gutter 4m (this product) Traditional curved channel Most UK houses, extensions, garages
Ogee / OG Moulded period profile Victorian / Edwardian style match
Square / rectilinear Modern boxy face Contemporary elevations
Deep flow / hi-cap Larger capacity Bigger roof areas, fewer outlets

If the existing gutters are half round, replacing like-for-like with a half round gutter 4m is usually the cleanest option. Mixing profiles on one elevation rarely looks right.

Flow capacity depends on fall, outlet position and roof area. As a guide, a standard 112mm half-round system with a stop-end outlet is often sized for moderate domestic catchment; a running outlet in the centre of a long run serves a larger area. For big roofs or low-pitch large planes, ask us whether half round is enough or whether a deeper system is wiser.

What a half round gutter 4m does

  • Catches water running off tiles or slates
  • Carries it along the eaves with a slight fall
  • Delivers it into outlets and downpipes
  • Protects fascia, brickwork and foundations from constant soak

Tiles should overhang slightly into the gutter so water drops in cleanly — not short of the gutter, and not jammed hard against the back so debris traps.

Fall, brackets and expansion

Fall
Aim the gutter down towards the outlet. A common recommendation is about 1:350 (roughly 3mm per metre). Some fitters prefer a slightly steeper fall for reliability. Level gutters still work in light rain but silt up and overflow more easily.

Bracket spacing
Typical maximum around 600mm centres on the fascia; closer (e.g. 300mm) in exposed or heavy-snow locations. Place a bracket within about 150mm of every joint, angle, outlet and stop end.

Outlet height
Fit outlets so the gutter sits close under the roof edge (often no more than about 50mm below the tile line — follow the system instructions).

Expansion
uPVC moves with temperature. Leave the system’s specified gap at unions (often around 5–10mm visible play in the marks). Do not glue half-round gutter joints unless the manufacturer says so — sealed clip joints are designed to move.

How to install a half round gutter 4m (overview)

  1. Mark the outlet plumb over the drain or gully.
  2. Fix the outlet (and high-end stop end) so the gutter will sit correctly under the roof edge.
  3. String a line for the fall toward the outlet.
  4. Fix fascia brackets along the line at the correct centres.
  5. Clip in each half round gutter 4m length. Cut with a fine saw; deburr the cut edge.
  6. Join lengths with union joints, seating the seals fully — a dab of system lubricant helps.
  7. Fit angles at corners and stop ends at open ends.
  8. Connect downpipe with offsets as needed so the pipe sits tidy on the wall.
  9. Water-test the run before leaving site.
  10. Keep leaf debris clear; consider guards only where they will not cause bridging over the outlet.

Not a full manufacturer method statement — follow the system instructions supplied with the fittings, or ask us to supply and fit.

Frequently asked questions

What is a half round gutter 4m?
A half round gutter 4m is a 4-metre length of curved uPVC gutter used along the eaves to collect rainwater.

Is half round the same as 112mm gutter?
In the UK, domestic half-round systems are commonly the 112mm size. Confirm fittings match the system you are installing.

Which colour should I choose?
Match fascia and windows where possible — anthracite with grey frames, black with most dark rooflines, white with white fascia.

What fall do I need?
A practical target is about 1:350 (around 3mm per metre) toward the outlet.

How far apart should brackets be?
Often up to 600mm, closer in exposed positions, and near every joint and fitting.

How many 4m lengths do I need?
Measure each elevation, add corners and waste, divide by 4. Long continuous eaves may need unions between lengths.

Can I mix brands of half round fittings?
Better not. Clip and seal dimensions vary — keep gutter and fittings in one compatible system.

Do you fit guttering as well as supply it?
Yes — supply and fit across our Essex / London-border area.

Collection or delivery?
Both. Showcase Plastics, Unit 6, Heybridge Industrial Estate, Maldon CM9 4XL.
