What is a Fascia Capover Board Square 9mm?

Fascia Capover Board is a 9mm thick, square-edged uPVC capping board (also called a capover board, cover board, cappit board or fascia cover). It is designed to fit over existing timber fascia that is still structurally sound, so you get a new weatherproof face without ripping the whole roofline off.

The fascia is the vertical board along the eaves that finishes the rafter ends and usually carries the gutter. Traditional fascia is timber. Timber needs painting, can rot, and looks tired long before the roof fails.

A 9mm capover / capping board is a slim uPVC skin that:

1. Covers the old fascia face
2. Gives a wipe-clean, colour-stable finish
3. Helps weather-seal the eaves
4. Lets gutter brackets fix through the uPVC into the sound timber behind

It is not a standalone structural fascia. The timber behind still does the load-bearing work.

Rule of thumb: probe the existing fascia. If it is firm, dry and well fixed, 9mm capover is the right product. If it crumbles, bounce or has wet rot, strip it and use 16mm. (see 16mm options here)

Product specification

How widths work: boards are usually measured external tip-to-tip. The bottom return lip reduces the cover height slightly (often around 9–10mm). Measure the existing fascia from top to bottom and round up to the next width so the old board is fully hidden and the gutter line stays true.

Most two-storey UK houses take 175mm or 200mm. Bungalows and single-storey runs often take 150mm. Deep eaves may need 225mm+.

How to fit Fascia Capover Board Square 9mm (overview)

This is a guide, not a substitute for a competent installer or our supply-and-fit team.

1. Check the timber. Replace any rotten sections first. Capping over rot traps moisture.
2. Measure width and length. Allow extra for corners, joints and waste. 5m boards reduce joints on long elevations.
3. Remove guttering if it blocks the face, or work section by section.
4. Offer up the board. Square edge gives a crisp line; keep the bottom return tight to the soffit / brick.
5. Fix with suitable polytop pins / plastic-head nails or stainless screws and caps. Typical pin length 30–40mm into sound timber (coloured boards can need longer fixings because of expansion).
6. Joints and corners — use colour-matched joint covers and corner trims from the same range. Do not butt raw ends and hope.
7. Allow expansion on long runs, especially dark colours in sun.
8. Refit gutter brackets through the new board into the timber, not into the 9mm uPVC alone.
9. Wipe down. No primer, no paint.
